MANY FACES

"Cross"

Model: Darko Kubatka

“Cross” is a life sized representation of the central symbol of western Christian iconography, the Crucifix. This image separates the traditional symbol from its religious and philosophical associations. The removal of the loin cloth, crown of thorns, nails, and wound symbolically represent a disrobing or disentanglement from dogma. What remains is a poetic and visually confronting, non-political art object. The vertical droplets of paint which represent blood suggest the physical, the human, the mortal or in more personal terms the man behind the myth, passionate, powerful, sexual and corporeal.

Original artwork 222cm x 200cm, is an assemblage of eight framed sepia toned gelatin silver prints with acrylic paint.
